Event Description

The Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) Initiative will host a side event on October 5 at the South African International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC) to highlight the productive interplay of energy efficiency and energy access.

Energy efficiency is an extraordinarily powerful energy access resource, yet it is all-too-often overlooked in access projects and policies. Energy service—not energy supply—accomplishes the human and environmental goals of energy access, and energy efficiency can maximize the delivery of energy service while minimizing the financial, social, and environmental costs of energy supply.

This event will bring together energy access stakeholders from the public and private sector to discuss the value and principles of utilizing energy efficiency as an energy access resource, addressing emerging policy, technological, and market opportunities and challenges.

EA+EE: Achieving Energy Access Goals at Least Cost with Super-Efficient Technologies

The event is hosted by the Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (Global LEAP) Initiative, with support from both the U.S. Department of Energy and the South Africa Department of Energy, and in affiliation with the Clean Energy Ministerial and Power Africa.
