New Ghana import requirements? -- from October 1st 2014

I just came across this:

https://verigates.bureauveritas.com/wps/wcm/connect/verigates/local...

This feels like an inspection similar to those (PVoC) required for East Africa (Tanzania.. Kenya..), it needs to happen in China before shipping.
I think it applies to solar.. let's keep this in mind, and share our experience here.

Standards and Quality are imortant.

As we learn (once more) Standards, depending on their handling, are also o good way to make money and to control markets.

Every shipment needs to be inspected, every inspection has to be paid, even if the product has a Ligting Global certification.

Yes.. just like in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania.. and a few other regions..

By the way, such inspection doesn't stop substandard products from being shipped to the markets..
Lots of small letters in what responsibility scope the inspection companies assume..

Double and triple punishment for those who fight for standards and quality ......

Just make a fancy, colorful and cheap product, do not care for quality and everything is just great.

There's some word that it's been suspended:

But Gold FM isn't exactly a big media player here, and I couldn't find anything about it from the big guys (Joy, Citi, Peace, Graphic), so take this with a grain of salt.

Thanks!!

Hi Yotam thanks for the link, good timing for me! Bureau Veritas Group is filmier and is one of the big 4 pre-inspection companies so my logistics guy at little sun say this should not be a big problem.   I have not seen that this process is doing much to prevent counterfeit or sub quality products from entering the market.  A recent trip to East Africa reveled several fake d-lights.

:-)

Yes, the original aim is good from the government. But, it bring much extra problem for the business in fact. For example, add the cost  of exporting, more long time delivery time.

The key is  there are still may low quality products can into the market. Don't know how they into under such policy.

Good suppliers will follow up such policy, but it will add the total cost of business, then add the product cost.

Thank you for sharing your views, Frank.

FYI

Just got word that the new import certification regulation has been postponed from Oct 1st to Nov 1st

Thanks, Mason!
