Here's a brand-new report on the health effects associated with fuel-based lighting. We're interested in further information that people in the field might send our way.

Permalink Reply by Linza on May 29, 2013 at 1:03am There doesn't seem to be much on tin-lamp kerosene emissions except PMs. By the way, good work with 'Technical and Economic Performance Analysis,' Evan. It was helpful to see photos of the lamps instead of just having them described, as in most reports.
I've asked my foreign students to bring me some tin lamps, and I'll try to get some measurements here. The grade of kerosene is likely to be very different in Finland than elsewhere.
Permalink Reply by Evan Mills on May 29, 2013 at 1:08am Yep, I'm not aware of work done beyond looking at PM (but at least the "species", i.e., particle sizes, are being differentiated). This includes, now, black carbon.
Indeed important to look at the actual fuels used. We ran into obstacles in trying to bring home samples for lab testing because you can't transport even tiny quantities of fuels on commercial airplanes. Need more in-country testing....
