I'm a Senior Scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, focused on energy and climate change topics. As founder of the Lumina Project in the mid-1990s, I developed the first estimate of global energy use for fuel-based lighting and early concepts for applicable LED-based alternatives. Since then, I've conducted many field- and lab-based studies related to off-grid lighting, including foundational work on quality assurance and support during development of Lighting Africa. My latest project is creating LuminaNET.
